Black bean is known to be a warming dal and is consumed primarily during the winter. It is slow-cooked in an iron kadhai, and the iron is believed to fortify the dal.

Black Bean is rich in protein, fiber, and amino acids and is best enjoyed in soup separately (Thatwani), with the beans as a salad, or mashed into a gravy.
